iTunes isn’t the be all and end all of music downloads. There are other alternatives for your music shopping and yes, they’re cheaper!

The latin proverb: “Music is the best cure for a sorrowing mind” is so true. I love my music. It gets me through the working day and is a perfect pick me up when I am feeling stressed or down. Without my iPod I would be lost. Seriously.
My iPod is at its full capacity. I won’t share my entire music taste with you all or I may get hate mails, but lets just say Justin Timberlake, Snow Patrol and Robbie Williams feature heavily. Fine, I admit it, I am a POP TART!
Obviously downloading music is illegal and myself and all you reading this wouldn’t dream of doing such a thing.
So where do you get your music from? Until recently iTunes was my saviour. Every Sunday after listening to the Top 40 countdown I would get on iTunes and download the latest tracks so I could rock out at my desk (ignoring the strange looks from my colleagues) and pump it up on the treadmill at the gym.
But my friends there are alternatives to iTunes and yes they are…cheaper!
Spotify
Whilst I write this I am listening to the new breakthrough in music – Spotify. Why is it so good? Because it is free! Spotify allows you to listen whatever song you want, when you want and you can share songs and playlists with friends. It is ideal for listening to music whilst sat at your desk in the office. There is only one slight complaint I have about this otherwise amazing free service. Sometimes your music is interrupted by adverts from Spotify and its sponsors. But you can’t really complain considering you aren’t paying. However, if the adverts really get your goat you have the option to buy a day pass for 99p. A premium pass for £9.99 also means no adverts, but as a VIP, you have the added bonus of exclusive access to pre-releases and concert ticket lotteries.
If you are thinking Spotify is rubbish because you can’t listen whilst on the move, you may soon be eating your words as there has been talk of a Spotify application for the iPhone. Oooo!
Play.Com
Play.Com is A M A Z I N G. I buy all of my DVDs, music from the site and I have also started buying clothes from there, at a fraction of the price of high-street retailers.
Play.Com also offer music downloads. They now have more than 4 million titles available. You can download albums from only £3.99 and the latest singles are available for 65p! On iTunes these same tracks are for sale at 79p or 99p.
John Simmons at lovemoney.com has the following advice for all you music downloaders: “Always shop around for your music, and don't rely on iTunes to always offer the best deal. It may be the easiest option, but it is rarely the cheapest.” Well said John, well said!
Download your MP3s and albums now on Play.com!
